Antique Giltwood Fragment
- antique circa 1850
- found in the Paris, France
- made of giltwood
- French Rococo style
- 7.5" tall x 13" wide at base
A beautifully weathered French giltwood architectural fragment dating to the mid-19th century and executed in the Louis XV Revival taste. Hand carved with scrolling acanthus foliage, floral ornament, and a finely textured crosshatched ground, the piece retains remnants of its original gilded surface and gesso decoration, worn gracefully through generations of use. Originally part of a larger mirror, overdoor, or decorative architectural ensemble, it now serves as a striking decorative object in its own right. Rich in character and old-world charm, this fragment brings a sense of French château elegance to bookshelves, mantels, and layered interiors.
