Antique French Neoclassical Gilt Mirror
- antique circa 1810
- found in the French countryside
- orignal foxing and giltwood frame
- Approximately: 29" x 17.5"
A beautifully timeworn early 19th century neoclassical gilt mirror, likely French in origin and dating approximately 1790–1825. Its elegant rectangular form is framed by finely carved beadwork, twisted ribbon detailing, and classical corner rosettes — all hallmarks of the refined Louis XVI and Directoire aesthetic inspired by Greco-Roman design.
The softly oxidized mirror plate displays the hazy, imperfect reflectivity prized in antique glass, adding warmth, depth, and undeniable old-world character. Its petite proportions give it the feel of a miniature trumeau mirror, making it especially versatile for layering into collected interiors.
Beautiful displayed above a commode, incorporated into a gallery wall, leaned on shelving, or styled in a powder bath for a romantic European look. A wonderfully understated piece with the quiet elegance and patina only age can create.
