These bowls were once known as bullion cups used for serving light soups or broths. The lion head is a traditional neoclassical motif symbolising strength and refinement. Originating in France in the 19th century, these bowls became widely produced into the 20ths century and are even still made today. Made from glazed white porcelain - often ironstone or faience.
With a wide range of sizes, you can use the larger bowls for soups or desserts such as creme brulee or as a berry bowl, the smaller bowls can be used for salt, spices, sauces or butter.
